JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Ben: Yes there was a phone in every cell I was in,
and if nobody was on it or if it wasn't broken
then I was able to make a couple phone calls.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Ben: I think it was same charges as a long distance
or collect call, but Im not sure on the exact
details on the charges.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Ben: While in Lubbock Co Jail, I was moved a few
times to different Counties, which two of those
Counties did let you buy phone cards with your
commencery money so your friends or family you
are calling wont be billed.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Ben: I have no idea, they say they did, but Im not
sure.
