Leisure Time

Interview with Ben

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Ben: Writing, reading, working out, watching t.v., playing board games or sleeping.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Ben: Well, when it came to the t.v., you had to let everyone know ahead of time that you want to watch something to sort of 'reserve' the t.v., but that only works sometimes.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Ben: No, I had alot of downtime so I think I became more in shape while in jail then I would in the free world.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Ben: In the Lubbock Co Jail, you had a gym type room you got to play around, run etc., or a small outside area with one basketball goal. Depended on which cell you were in depended on what kind of rec. you got to do.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Ben: They offered church services quite alot but I never participated in them.
