Life On the Inside
When all is going according to plan, every jail in the country should face some sort of accreditation review on a regular basis. The results of these reviews are a matter of public record and can be checked at anytime.
The Lubbock County Jail was granted its latest certification of compliance from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards back in 2009 and was found to be in compliance with the minimum standards. Hopefully things have stayed the same or gotten better since then.
The Lubbock County Jail can take in up to 795 prisoners and employs a full staff of a 181. Former inmates who served time in Lubbock County kept busy with writing, reading, working out, watching TV, playing board games, cards or just sleeping away the hours. Where an inmate is housed will depend on what kind of rec situation that can use. Some dorms have access to outdoor courtyards while others are indoors.
Speaking of minimum compliance, that appears to be what the meal situation at Lubbock County Jail is. Inmates get just enough food to get by. They can fill out those meager trays by buying snacks or other types of food items from the weekly commissary order.
Good Behavior Policy
Not only does good behavior time vary from state to state but it also changes from the federal system to the county. An inmate doesn't automatically get time off for good behavior. If you are in the trustee program at Lubbock County, you can receive up to two days reduction for every one day served. The trustee program is typically for non-violent offenders who havenít gotten in to any jail trouble in the past.
Visit and Telephone Policy
Phones are made available in every dorm or cellblock unit but there is no guarantee that an inmate will be able to make a call when they want or that the phones are working. Inmates are granted visits at least once a week. The visiting room environment was reported to be small and lacking in privacy. In other words, just what you would expect from a jail.
